EXPLORING THE ECHNOLOGICAL SUBLIME
In the 21st century, the concept of the sublime has undergone a transformative evolution, finding a new incarnation within the virtual worlds and metaverse. These digital realms, born from the intricate interplay between technology and human imagination, represent the latest frontier in our quest for the exalted. Here, beauty is not just grand and dangerous; it is limitless and infinitely malleable. The metaverse, a collective virtual shared space, created by the convergence of virtually enhanced physical reality, augmented reality (AR), and the internet - a dynamic that we call 'Spatial Computing'. offers a new canvas for the expression of the sublime. As we navigate these digital landscapes, we are not just observers but creators, empowered to sculpt our environments and experiences in ways that were once inconceivable. This digital sublime represents a departure from the awe inspired by nature or the terror evoked by technological advancements in machinery and warfare. Instead, it invites us into a realm where the barriers between the human and the digital blur, where our sense of awe and wonder is ignited by the endless possibilities of creation and interaction within these virtual ecosystems. As we delve deeper into the metaverse, we are challenged to redefine our understanding of beauty, community, and identity, exploring new dimensions of the sublime in an ever-expanding digital universe.

Voom Hotel has been conceived as a background scenario of many different single projects all around the idea of the multiple representation of ourselves through the Metaverse, and our struggle to compose, edit and build up a whole character out of many different digital alter-appeareances.
Twelve Avatar have been designed and built, each one to embody a different symbol of a single aspect of the relationship we, the users, build over the metaverse. The Avatars' together were hosted in a virtual domicile which is named after the first owner's avatar, Vive Voom. Also the virtual Architecture of the Voom Hotel has been designed and built in the Second Life Metaverse.
This project evolved from the original drafts of 2008/2009 to the final edit in the Metaverse of Second Life in 2014.
Virtual live experiences in the metaverse represent a groundbreaking shift in how we connect, share, and engage with entertainment and each other. This digital revolution transcends the traditional boundaries of space and time, allowing individuals from across the globe to converge in a shared virtual space for concerts, conferences, and social gatherings. In these immersive environments, the sensory experiences are vivid and interactive, as users can not only witness events unfold in real-time but also participate actively, influencing outcomes and engaging with content in a manner that's deeply personal and dynamic. The metaverse offers a platform where the physical limitations of the real world are replaced by the boundless potential of virtual creation, enabling experiences that are as rich and complex as those in the physical world, if not more so. Through these virtual live experiences, the metaverse is redefining the essence of community and shared experiences, making them more inclusive, accessible, and engaging for all.
Machinima, the art of creating animated films using real-time computer graphics engines, often from video games or virtual worlds, finds a new and expansive playground within the metaverse. This innovative form of filmmaking leverages the dynamic environments and avatars of virtual spaces to produce cinematic creations that blend the boundaries between reality and digital fantasy. In the metaverse, creators can direct and produce narratives without the constraints of physical world logistics, budgets, or physics, enabling unparalleled creative freedom. The process not only democratizes film production, allowing anyone with access to the metaverse to become a filmmaker but also opens up a universe of storytelling possibilities. Characters can defy gravity, settings can transform in the blink of an eye, and narratives can explore the unbound potential of virtual realities. Machinima in the metaverse represents a fusion of gaming, filmmaking, and digital art, creating a unique genre that pushes the limits of imagination and storytelling in the digital age.
In a pioneering venture that bridged historical tradition and digital innovation, museums and art galleries collaborated with metaverse architect and artist Luca Lisci in the context of Effimera to construct virtual exhibition spaces, bringing the richness of art and culture into the boundless realms of the metaverse. Beginning with the MoMA Pavilion in Second Life, a multitude of exhibition venues emerged from numerous collaborations, further enriching the virtual landscape with cultural and artistic spaces.
